Danny MacAskill - Cascadia

He is back and doesn't disappoint.

Single speed cyclocross world championship.

Great video from the single speed cyclocross world championship in Louisville. Cross bikes continue to be both our most common build and our favorite. If you're thinking of trying a race, it's easily the most fun, exciting race discipline out there. Costumes and drinking are optional, but appreciated.

Spring is on its way.

It has been a long and bitter cold winter.   With that said spring is just around the corner and your bike is begging for a tune up.  Make sure to schedule your appointment early and beat the early spring rush.   I took the time to install a furnace in the shop this winter, the only problem is that the ground is still frozen so there will be no gas until late spring.    Repairs are starting to come in and the shop temperature is hanging in the mid teens, one more winter with space heaters.

early repairs make for one cold mechanic.

Wheelman Truck

The boys and I got to test ride three of Coker Cycle Company's Wheelman truck bicycles this weekend.  It's 36" wheel takes some getting use to but once you make a few turns the wheelman trucks are a blast.  Our posse hit the streets in style and it only took a block before a unsanctioned race broke out, and yes these bad boys freewheel.  Helmet highly recommended.

Setting up the wash room (not bathroom) this is where steel tubes and other various parts get cleaned and prepared for final welding.  attached to these post will be a trolly system suspended 9 feet above that will transfer baskets from one 90 gallon wash tank to another 4 in total.  More photos to follow.

Detroit Bikes launches web store

Detroit bikes is now live and taking online pre orders.

We build a bike for people who haven’t forgotten how to ride one, and by that we mean everyone. We build it in a city with manufacturing expertise and deep traditions that include bicycle production, touring, recreational riding, commuting & racing. The prototype was constructed in a coach house off Woodward Avenue, a couple of blocks from where Henry Ford once lived. We manufacture every frame at our factory in West Detroit. We weld them here. We paint, assemble and package them here.

Bearing Abuse

This is a picture of a standard bicycle axel (courtesy of sheldon brown), notice the cones are nice and smooth, this is what allows the bearings inside your wheels hub to glide smoothly. The cone and bearings of a hub assembly live a relatively peaceful life, the bearing caked in grease rolls smoothly over the cone with minimal friction.  Routine maintenance to your bicycle will greatly increase thechances of a long happy cone and bearing relationship.  If not properly cared for cone and bearings peaceful relationship will soon become strained and possibly lead to a domestic disturbance such was the case below.

Get your bicycle serviced don't let your cone become victim to bearing abuse. If you or any cone you know has become victim to bearing abuse get help now don't delay call 1-248-677-1360. Help is just a phone call away.
